Our Commitment to Sustainability

At Towens, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.

We’re proud to say that 92% of the waste we receive in our skips avoids landfill.

Here’s how we manage the various waste streams we receive in our skips.

  1. Transfer Station Processing

When your skip is collected, its contents are transported to one of our Transfer Stations. Here, the waste is tipped out and prepared for processing.

  1. Segregation and Recycling

We use a variety of methods to sort and recycle waste:

– Hardcore or soil-only skips can be screened, crushed or processed through our Aggregate recycling process plant creating recycled sand, stone, topsoil and for use in construction projects.

– Plasterboard is stored for recycling by plasterboard manufacturers at our own waste transfer station.

– Other waste is sorted using various techniques, including, Shredding, separated through our trommel, handpicking, blowing, and magnetic separation.

  1. Waste Stream Management

Once sorted, different types of waste are handled as follows:

– Non-recyclable material is loaded into large walking floor trailers and transported to waste-to-energy plants or landfill sites within our area.

– Recyclable materials are segregated, stockpiled, and transported to suitable recycling facilities to be turned into other products.

By choosing Towens for your skip hire needs, you’re not just getting rid of waste – you’re contributing to a more sustainable future.
